And finally; Something different

The Housemartin long ago learned that if you leave things on my workbench they might just catch my eye and end up painted. Exactly such a thing happened last night. Long ago I assembled some Gripping Beast plastic Arab Cavalry for T.H. and (despite repeated reminders) he has failed to take them home and paint them. I had spent an hour or so cleaning up my newly aquired western town buildings when I got the itch to pick up a paintbrush (mind you, this doesn't happen often so I never let the urge pass). I cast around for something primed and ready to go and my eye caught on the cavalry. They are delightful figures so I did some quick research and got started. A couple of hours later I had this:

a few infantry crept into the process as well

They have another couple of hours to go before they are ready for the tabletop. It was fun painting something that wasn't uniform for a change. Combined with the Arab foot that I did a while back T.H. has the basis for a Saga or Pikeman's Lament force.

  1. Dude an excellent kit I have discovered from GB. Great start, though you say couple of hours, I am full of envy. Can I leave some kits lying around your house? Of course I’d want them back after painting. I have tons of stuff lying about. I could probably open my own miniature store!

  2. Historic illustrations show, them in the wildest color combinations, I will tone these down a bit with washes. I find them a bit garish

  3. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! I knew if they sat around long enough you would not be able to resist that Janissary officer's allure. That sassy bastard required far more expertise than I posses to do him justice. What a magnificent figure, almost up to your talents Anton - almost. Now I guess I need to run the Dungeons and Dragons mini campaign! That was the RPG that started it all. It is about time to destroy Constantinople don't you think? Just need the Janissary to storm the walls.

  4. They are lurking in the same box that I found the cavalry in.....they should be quicker as they have uniforms and no horses. Any particular color you would care to see them in aside from the common blue/white get up?

  7. So you’re saying that if people leave stuff around you it’ll eventually become awesome wargaming stuff? Nice to know. 😀. Does this include terrain? 😀

    Nicely done figs!

  8. Stew, I am a creature of impulses. The whole Castillo business came about because I was testing out a recently repaired tool. So, yes, such things might just happen.

  9. It never hurts to ply him with gifts too: Irish whiskey, and cheap rum always work. What ever odds and ends will further his current mania are also good choices.

Since you asked ... The eleven with muskets (and one with a mace from the cook pot pack) do in the basic Blue far right of link). The six with Halberds do in Red (center of link). The six with bows do in Green and mustard (far left of link). Here is a link to what appears to be some looney re-enactment group, one of the pictures even shows them doing the goofy march the Yanni-Cherie moved to. If you get really bored and want to paint the cook pot dudes in some simple scheme to match the officer that would be awfully swell too.
