Trenches for the Quar, Part V Debris and texture

As I continue to pound away at this my posts may become less frequent. This is due to the sheer volume of work, the processes used on each panel are the same and I won't waste your time by posting each day as I finish a panel. That being said, I have completed the debris ejected from the shell holes and give the boards a light bit of texture and a coat of paint.

last we saw our table it looked like this
I hand-planked the revetments on all of the trenches

there was a lot of it

an awful lot of it

but finally I got it all sorted out

my homemade debris mix; kitty litter, aquarium gravel and playground sand

first step; mix Titebond 50/50 with water (stir well) and then paint it heavily around a shell-hole

step 2; sprinkle the debris mix gently into the wet glue
capillary action will draw the glue mixture up into the debris

step 3; repeat, a lot of times

while I was waiting for the glue to dry I decided to mark off the cardstock in 1/8 inch lines
to be used as the duckboards that would line the floor of the trenches

paint it to resemble dirty wood

then I cut it into one and a half inch wide strips

the debris had finally dried so I decided to add another coat of paint

this will form the basis for the next layer of texture and then grass

Once this has dried I will add some more texture to the open areas using coarse sand. Then comes dry-brushing and highlighting followed by a touch of grass in the open areas..Once all that is out of the way the "Tedium of Sandbags" will begin.

  1. I’ve been getting sneak peeks, but I must post my happiness with project so far so everyone knows how I appreciate this massive effort.

    Cheers

    1. It's about to slow down, my friend! Hand-shaping bazillion tiny sandbags and attaching them to this model will be a tedious task
