28mm Egyptian Infantry from Wargames Atlantic

 

        The latest release in the Wargames Atlantic "First Empires" range (which pretty much covers the dawn of organized warfare to the death of Alexander the Great) is Egyptian Archers and Spearmen. This set will provide the solid block of troops that formed the mainstay of the Egyptian Empire for over a thousand years. Combining this set with the previously released Bronze Age Chariots and you could (with a little bit of work) field and Egyptian Army in its entirety. The minis are molded in the familiar gray plastic with no flash and the faintest of mold-lines. 

       The box contains twenty-four minis evenly divided between archers and spearmen with enough extra bits and bobs to build unit commanders, musicians and standard bearers. The miniatures are on small, thin puddle bases; a feature that I like as they can be securely based due to the large contact area but easy to blend into the basing as the puddle base is very thin. The posing of the minis and the anatomy are both excellent, no over-sized heads or hands. The models feature reasonable poses with no kneeling or teetering one one foot "action"poses.

Kushite faces are included, which is a nice touch

the spears are nice and sturdy so they will survive contact with wargames 

 

 

again, the little details make it pop

the fletching on the arrows has clearly defined feathers 

 

       An impressive production. With this set you are well on your way to building an Egyptian army that you can legitimately field against a huge number of opponents. With the ability to custom-pose the plastic minis this set would also work well for skirmish and RPG games.
