28mm Gunfighters from Great Escape Games

At first I was a bit surprised by this box, mostly by the low figure-count. But a more thoughtful moment left me to realize that I am used to building armies of hundreds of figures at a time while a gunfight is a small, quick skirmish. In that regard this box is perfectly sized; I can't think of a single "gun fight" that had more than ten shooters involved (certainly not in any of the movies that I did my "research" in). Inside the box you will find two matching sprues cast in a hard gray plastic that assemble into eight standing and two kneeling gunslingers. The casting work is first-rate with no trace of flash and nearly invisible mold-lines. The figure break-down will allow almost any combination of legs/torso/arms/head which means you could build several boxes of these without any two figures being alike. The selection of weapon is is comprehensive and includes neat items like a bundle of dynamite, an ox skull and a lasso.

the box with it's contents; two identical sprues of figures and a set of bases

a nice set of bases,
I might be tempted to base the figures on coins or washers
to add heft and help with balance

sprue Side B

there are a great selection of heads

a few of whom wear masks

the deeply sculpted figures will make painting a breeze

at first I didn't recognize what these were;
barrels of open break-action two-pipers, a neat touch

and what would the Old West be without lassos, ox-skulls and dynamite?

they even include tin badges for the good-guys to wear

This is a fabulous set that provides everything that you could ask for to get started in Old West skirmishing. Two boxes and you could flood the table with gunslingers all differently positioned and armed. These would go perfectly with Dead Man's Hand or my own Wild West Shoot-out rules. Cheaper and far more adaptable than metal figures I have to say that if you are thinking about getting into Old West skirmishing this has to be the perfect place to start!

Very Highly Recommended!

  1. Nice looking figures, they should look pretty cool with a lick of paint on.

  2. I have these but they're still in the 'to do' pile. They look great.

  3. Might need to find a Western skirmish game for these guys. Or figure out a way to add them to Grimdark Future: Firefight. There are many possibilities.

Really love all the little accessories. Ox skulls. Lassos. Tiny tin stars. Reloading shotguns. Just a lovely little kit.

Given that the torsos are modeled separate from the lower bodies, it would be easy to kitbash these onto some horses. Maybe sourced from Perry Miniatures Napoleonic cavalry. (For that matter, any American Civil War kits could be mined for additional parts. The "Old West" of myth was populated by current and former soldiers from that conflict.)
