Wargames Atlantic 28mm Mounted Sergeants from sprue to painted

the front of the box

A new(ish) release from the prolific stable of Wargames Atlantic is this set mounted sergeants from the early medieval period. I got this set from the good folks at Michigan Toy Soldier, who also have the full Baron's War set which provided the miniatures and the set of rules at an excellent price. As is to be expected from Wargames Atlantic the miniatures are cleanly cast in medium gray plastic. They are detailed and well proportioned with natural poses. The chain mail is well rendered as are the padded gambesons. There are a host of heads wearing a delightful variety of headgear.

bases, plain but entirely useful

Sprue 1, side A
energetic and well proportioned horses
be careful when assembling as some to he halves don't align with all the others

Sprue 1, Side B
the clearly defined bridling and reins will make painting a breeze

at first I was mystified by the missing lower jaws
until I realized that they were attached to the reins

Sprue 2, Side A
loads of options, weapons, shields, swords and,
of course, fifteen heads for three bodies

Sprue 2, Side B
the bodies are powerfully built without looking cartoonish,
the heads and hands are properly proportioned,
the faces are loaded with character

when building the minis I tried to get alike without looking the same
I avoided lowered lances as they are problematic during gaming and often broken
if you desire such there is the option available

these guys are a pair with the foot sergeants from my last post
I am still waiting on decals so the shields have only a basic paint job

the horses are muscular and energetic

the bases are left just green as I have not yet decided how they are going to be based

and then another batch to go with the red crossbowmen

This is an excellent set of miniatures, they are beautifully detailed and the vast array of options makes me want to get a couple of more sets so that I can fully explore all of the options. If you are considering gaming in the early Medieval period you could do far worse than getting this set. I can barely wait to get to the Mounted Knights.

        Very Highly Recommended!!   Get some!
