Now that all of the bulky item have been sorted out I move on to the fiddly stuff. These will get progressively tedious as I move forward but they are the thing that make the model "pop" so they cannot be overlooked. Rivets (of course) are everywhere, railings were nearly as ubiquitous but the guns shields were present for only part of the ship's life so they have to be removable (I think the ship looks better without them but YMMV).
I forgot to prime the pins that I used for railing stanchions
of course there were rivets to add....
the Navy added shield to the main guns as an afterthought,
I made them removable so the model can be displayed either way
...and more rivets....
how things are shaping up,
I have to finish the railings along the main deck
but there are still rivets to add first
one of the many paint schemes the Atlanta displayed during her lifetime
I won't be modelling the laundry....
Three big things remain; boats, masts and ductwork. I'm sorting out which mast arrangement she carried for most of her career. Originally she had square rigging on both masts but I feel that would overwhelm the model as well as making it wildly top-heavy!
