Strelets-R 20mm ACW Union Infantry Firing

 the box art isn't inspirational
but it does give a clear idea of how to paint the minis and what one will find inside
Strelets has offered an excellent set of Union Infantry, these are in firing poses. All are in good active poses, some are very convincingly leaning into the recoil. These figures are cast in a stiff,  bright blue plastic that takes detail very well. The figures display very little flash and are deeply sculpted which will make painting a breeze. The variety of the positions will allow the modeller or gamer to create a very realistic firing line; some men loading others taking aim  as still more deliver fire. I can see these fellows lining a stone wall at the top of a hill waiting for the previous three boxes of Pickett's charge to come storming uphill at them.

This kit was kindly provided for review by Michigan Toy Soldier Shop and is available to purchase either in their store or through their website

the back of the box shows the three-ups
and clearly displays the twenty new sculpts that this box contains

the box with contents

one Command sprue and three infantry sprues
fortunately the Muscovite soldier is on the Command sprue so there is only one wasted  model

the Command sprue has good active poses,
the cast-on flag is easily enough replaced if you so wish and the officer is bravely waving his sword

I found this little vignette touching, a soldier checks on his wounded comrade

the proportions are excellent and the detail is very good

infantry sprue, side A
a good selection of poses, some soldiers search for another cartridge, others take aim

infantry sprue side B
I particularly like that the figures vary in size a little, just like real soldiers

you can almost feel the soldier anticipating the recoil of his rifle

as this old-timer carefully lines up his shot before taking aim

Another hit for Strelets, I almost suspect that the figures are sculpted from photos taken at re-enactments; the posing and proportions are so believable. I can feel a diorama coming in the near future depicting Pickett's Charge, the vast selection of poses now available would create a very convincing display. Kudos to Strelets-R for going the extra mile and providing such a huge variety.

Very highly recommended.
