Strelets-R Pickett's Charge 2

Strelets-R has moved into the US Civil War in a big way having recently released nine different boxes of figures in the "semi-hard" plastic that is becoming the standard in 1/72 (20mm) scale. Well proportioned, cleanly cast with enough variety to make it look like men moving under fire this is a great addition to the available figures for the US Civil War.

Here we see the Pickett's Charge 2 set. The front box art is a nicely evocative drawing of the finale of the Confederate charge and provides decent ideas for uniform colors and is suggestive of what is contained in the box. The back of the box is far more helpful as it clearly presents the contents with photographs of the miniatures contained within. The boxes are flimsy but, as the figures inside are flexible, there is no real risk of damage.

Again Strelets-R has chosen to confine the type of figures presented to one theme, this is an idea that I am fully supportive of and is rarely seen in this scale. The troops are all depicted with their guns lowered and bayonets fixed, ready to close those last fateful yards to the enemy, and in the active poses  of men that know they are going to be crossing bullet swept ground and would like to move as quickly as they can. None are running but the sculptor has positioned each figure with a long stride and slightly out of step with the others. Looking at them you get the feeling that they are in a hurry.

This kit was kindly provided for review by Michigan Toy Soldier Shop and is available to purchase either in their store or through their website

the box with contents, one Command Sprue and three of infantry

four of the seven figures on the Command sprue are casualties,
most rules use markers of some sort to show states of casualties or disorder, so these may come in useful, for the diorama builder these will be very handy

the other side of the Command sprue
all of the figures are well proportioned and cleanly cast

I think I saw this  guy in a Don Troiani painting
a very good sculpt

this lad looks like he wishes he brought something for dangerous than a drum,
a very determined pose all the same

infantry sprue side A
excellent poses, well proportioned
with just enough variation that they don't look like a row of mannequins

infantry sprue side B,
in the lower left we again find a Muscovite interloper

deeply sculpted details will make these a joy to paint,
I also like the variation in kit

more beards, the old timer exhorting his buddies onward is an excellent figure

Well done indeed! This set is an excellent addition to the previous US Civil War sets and can be used to depict CSA troops at almost any point in the war after it's opening phases. If you are gaming or building displays in this scale you need t take a good look at these figures/
