No trench warfare game would be complete without barbed wire entanglements, and as everything else except crating was done, they moved to the top of the project list. From the artwork available the Quar take a far less energetic approach to setting wire entanglements than was usually seen on the Western front of the Great War. Often the wire is depicted as a single strand strung along a line of posts, or concertina wire laid out without benefit of posts. This didn't sit right with me so I decided to lay out the sections of wire as concertina wire emplaced with posts to secure it. These would be painted and textured to match as closely as possible the terrain boards.

Trenches for the Quar: Part X, Barbed wire entanglements
I cut shapes from 8" sections of Eco-Rug and hot-glued posts to the sections,
the sections were placed onto a tray while the paint was still wet and then covered with a thick layer of ground texture mix, the paint was then allowed to dry, this will affix the texture mix to the base
once dried they were removed from the tray and given a good shaking to remove any loose material (there was a lot of that) you could stop at this point if you wish, I was aiming to match the look of the terrain boards so more work was required
starting with another coat of the dark base color, this does two thing; it seal and attaches the texture to the base and it provides a standard color to begin highlighting from
once coated the base sections were left to dry thoroughly
then they were given a heavy drybrush of medium ground color
and a lighter one of light ground color
then it was back to the tray where they were given a heavy coat of clear finish and a dusting of Woodland Scenics "Burnt Grass" scatter material and a another heavy coat of clear matte
while that was outside drying I rolled some florist's wire into tight coils,
then painted them black and highlighted them with gunmetal
All that remains is cutting the sheet plywood for the crates and this will be ready to go!
